Interview with Ami Otsuka published on the official TOEIC Program site

On October 15, 2025 an interview with author and app developer Ami Otsuka (representative of Hundreds LLC) was published on the official TOEIC Program site, run by the Institute for International Business Communication (IIBC). The title translates as "Wanting to be understood is what sharpens the English an AI cannot produce for you."

The interview is about English. Otsuka describes how presenting at international conferences suddenly created a need for it, and how an AI translation only yields English that is merely correct unless the speaker has already decided what to say.

In the interview Otsuka recounts how an Othello game she built with ChatGPT during a class in her fourth year caught a professor's eye, which led to writing a paper and presenting it at a conference. The order matters: she did not present because her English was good; she needed English because she had to present.
